I’ve found the best website. The lady writing it has all kinds of DIY advice and beautiful practical tips for decorating. But what I love the best is her motto:

“It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.”

Can I get a witness up in here?

I met a lady about twenty years ago in the car line at our kids’ school. We laughed and talked and became instant friends. A few days later I heard it was her birthday. I found out where she lived and baked a cake. I was so excited to surprise my new friend. When I turned that cake out onto a plate, it fell… and great was the fall of it.

What a mess. It went all to pieces. Since it was already getting late and I had never been to her house before, I started to just give up on my birthday surprise. But David said, “Take it to her anyway. It will still taste good.”

So I did.

And we have been through thick and thin ever since. I think she took one look at that pitiful cake and decided we were meant to be friends. I’m so thankful I didn’t wait to become perfect to become her pal. Oh the fun we would’ve missed. We’ve decided that we must remain friends til death now because we have too much dirt on each other.

The other night, I was following the same recipe to bake a cake for our Life Group. Here’s what it looked like. That crazy cake fell flat as a flitter.

Apparently I still had not learned the lesson God needed me to remember… possibly something about the difference in baking soda and powder. I nearly cried. Guess what David had the nerve to say?

“Take it anyway. It will still taste good.”

And you know what? It did. Plus it gave us some laughs and a great reminder.

“It doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.”
