Since I told you earlier about the old door I wanted to make into a table, I thought you might like to see how it turned out. Not real great, but not too shabby either. Here’s the before pictures.
These are the old but sturdy stools I found at the ReStore. I thought about using sawhorses but since the space is very narrow, I think these will work better.
Here’s the old door again. There was paint on the pretty glass, but we were able to get it off with a scrubby sponge. David found some wood sealer, so after I washed about a hundred years of dirt off the door, the sealer gave it a nice finish. [Come to think of it, the house we rescued it from was built in 1925, so a hundred years is not much of an exaggeration.]
Now here I sit at my new writing table, waiting for the creative juices to flow.
And I’ve got nothing.
When that happens, I find it helps to share from where ever I am currently reading during my morning quiet time.
So from Isaiah chapter one I had these underlined:
- “My people don’t recognize my care for them.” 1:3c
- “Stop bringing me your meaningless gifts.” 1:13a
- “I want no more of your pious meetings.” 1:13d
Are you encouraged yet?
Me neither.
So here’s my favorite passage about a door:
“Look! I stand at the door and knock. If you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal together as friends.” –Revelation 3:20
Gleaning from both passages, I think the Lord longs for our fellowship more than all the offerings and grandiose church functions in the world. Let’s start today by recognizing His wonderful care for us.
Thankfully the door He’s knocking on is not balanced between two barstools.
Love it! (Hey I have a building full of stuff my kids have left me. Wanna come over and go through these treasures?)

Glad to hear you have a building. I’m sure it’s not completely full. I still have Sara’s hall tree. I’ll bring it over with a bow on it for her baby shower. 😉

I read the scripture you quoted and heard “meal” speaking to me. I think we might be on different spiritual plains here=) or maybe I need to eat breakfast. Thank you for sharing your world and insite with me every morning!

I heard MEAL too! Wouldn’t that be nice? I wonder if Jesus likes grits. To that He would probably reply, “I meant fellowship.”

That’s funny Brooke. We were at Hobby Lobby the other day and I said, “Brooke needs those barstools.” I wondered if you ever got any.

Nice job! I think I would try to stir up those creative juices by thinking of what that old door had witnessed in its many years. It should have some terrific tales, for certain!
As beautiful as it is, I know I have lots of projects that never make it out of my head due to laziness on my part. Congratulations on getting it completed!

I am getting inspired to ask Waller to climb into the attic and bring down my old yard sale door and help me with the ultimate project. Do you think it is too hot to ask a husband to go into the attic?? Hopefully not.
ps Waller says, “Thanks a lot, Lynna.”
