Where do you go for therapy? David takes a long ride on his motorcycle praying all the way. I too pray when upon it. Nothing brings repentance like a near death experience. A friend of mine works in her yard to unwind. Another relaxes on a float in her pool. Usually if I can get a Sunday afternoon nap, I’m good for another week. Of course a trip to the beach is an instant recharge. Last week I was treated to a spa day by some wonderful friends. I’m not into girly things, so I’ve never had such treatment before. Now suddenly I am a fan!
Manicure, pedicure, make-up, massage, hair style and multiple chocolate desserts later, I am a new woman. But my favorite was tea time. One of the ladies lived in South Africa for many years. She described the importance of the afternoon tea in many cultures. Around 3pm, the family stops to have hot tea together. Children are included while the family reconnects during their break from the day. It’s considered vital to well-being lest folks grow tired and become “peckish.”
That’s also my new favorite word. How descriptive of what we can so easily become. Someone talks on their cell phone instead of proceeding through a green light. I am immediately peckish. I receive a call from an uninvited guest at 6:27am and my day has started out peckishly. Folks traveling the road in front of my house throw trash out as they go their merry way and I have been known to get a wee bit peckish. My neighbor’s lawn service uses a high powered mower slinging debris onto my truck and I am a little beyond peckish. Perhaps I shall pay them a visit.
Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone stopped mid-afternoon for tea? What a lovely thought.
It may resemble a time not too long ago when children came home from school and moms had milk and cookies ready. Anyone remember that? What a happy fifteen minutes!
So are you with me? Let’s start our own tea party. Every afternoon let’s take a little break and enjoy a reconnect with those around us. Maybe we could prepare a cup of tea and take that time to call a friend, an elderly parent, or someone who needs a touch.
Perhaps the world would be less peckish.
A good idea!

I would like a tea party at 3 pm (or anytime). Unfortunately, most days I can barely find time for a bathroom break!

And if you drink tea, those bathroom breaks are very very necessary!
