Did you know that kangaroos will snatch children from their beds and gobble them up? Our niece and nephew are in Kenya for language training and just learned this scary bit of “truth.” As Holly said, Toys ‘r Us may want to rethink their logo. It’s funny that folks in Africa are used to seeing lions, which actually CAN make a happy meal of them, but have a real fear of kangaroos which they’ve never seen.
Come to think of it, I’ve got some bad kangaroos lurking where I live too. They wear different labels but are still pretty fierce. Their nametags include “Sickness,” “Aging,” “Loss,” and “Loneliness.” They feel very real, especially the older I get. But I have to wonder if they are just as mythical as the baby snatchers in Africa.
God doesn’t caution us of mean kangaroos, but He does warn us of a very real and hungry lion who is looking to rip us apart.
“Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour. Stand firm against him, and be strong in your faith.”
So how do we do that?
The verse before His warning says this:
“So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time He will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.”
From now on, I plan to kick those kangaroos to the curb. No longer will I entertain thoughts of fear. Instead I want to intentionally recall the times God has provided and trust that He can bear my worries.
And the best thought of all is that He will because “He cares about me!”
Thanks Lord. I needed that. Please keep the hopping of kangaroos through my head to a minimum. But strengthen me daily to remember that the Lion of doubt will rip me apart if I let him. Help me to humbly submit to Your great care, knowing You alone can defeat him on my behalf. Thanks for caring for me that much!
NO MORE KANGAROOS!
